This paper is concerned with local cohomology sheaves on generalized flag varieties supported in closed Schubert varieties, which carry natural structures as (mixed Hodge) D-modules. We employ Kazhdan--Lusztig theory and Saito's theory of mixed Hodge modules to describe a general strategy to calculate the simple composition factors, Hodge filtration, and weight filtration on these modules. Our main tool is the Grothendieck--Cousin complex, introduced by Kempf, which allows us to relate the local cohomology modules in question to parabolic Verma modules over the corresponding Lie algebra. We show that this complex underlies a complex of mixed Hodge modules, and is thus endowed with Hodge and weight filtrations. As a consequence, strictness implies that computing cohomology commutes with taking associated graded with respect to both of these filtrations. We execute this strategy to calculate the composition factors and weight filtration for Schubert varieties in the Grassmannian, in particular showing that the weight filtration is controlled by the augmented Dyck patterns of Raicu--Weyman. Gotzmann's persistence theorem enables us to confirm the Hilbert polynomial of a subscheme of projective space by checking the Hilbert function in just two points, regardless of the dimension of the ambient space. We generalise this result to products of projective spaces, and then extend our result to any smooth projective toric variety. In the case of products of projective spaces, the number of points depends solely on the Picard rank of the ambient space, rather than on the dimension. For a more general smooth projective toric variety this number depends on the number of Hilbert basis elements of the nef cone.

In this paper, we compute the dual $F$-signatures of certain toric rings by using combinatorial techniques. Specifically, we calculate the dual $F$-signatures of Veronese subrings of polynomial rings. Moreover, we give an upper bound for the dual $F$-signatures of Segre products of polynomial rings and show that this upper bound is attained in some cases., Comment: 14 pages

Each numerical semigroup $S$ with smallest positive element $m$ corresponds to an integer point in a polyhedral cone $C_m$, known as the Kunz cone. The faces of $C_m$ form a stratification of numerical semigroups that has been shown to respect a number of algebraic properties of $S$, including the combinatorial structure of the minimal free resolution of the defining toric ideal $I_S$. In this work, we prove that the structure of the infinite free resolution of the ground field $\Bbbk$ over the semigroup algebra $\Bbbk[S]$ also respects this stratification, yielding a new combinatorial approach to classifying homological properties like Golodness and rationality of the poincare series in this setting. Additionally, we give a complete classification of such resolutions in the special case $m = 4$, and demonstrate that the associated graded algebras do not generally respect the same stratification.

Over a commutative Noetherian ring, we show that Auslander-Reiten conjecture holds true for the class of (finitely generated) modules whose dual has finite complete intersection dimension. Our another result validates the conjecture for the class of modules whose self dual has finite complete intersection dimension and either the module or its dual has finite Gorenstein dimension., Comment: 5 pages, comments and suggestions are welcome

The notions of N-hyperideals and J-hyperideals as two classes of hyperideals were recently defined in the context of Krasner (m,n)-hyperrings. These concepts are created on the basis of the intersection of all n-ary prime hyperideals and the intersection of all maximal hyperideals, respectively. Despite being vastly different in many aspects, they shar numerous similar properties. The aim of this research work is to merge them under one frame called n-ary delta(0)-hyperideals where the function delta assigns to each hyperideals of a Krasner (m,n)-hyperring a hyperideal of the same hyperring. We give various properties of n-ary delta(0)-hyperideals and use them to characerize certain classes of hyperring such as hyperintegral domains and local hyperrings. Moreover, we introduce the notions of (s,n)-absorbing delta(0)-hyperideals and weakly (s,n)-absorbing delta(0)-hyperideals.

We reobtain and often refine prior criteria due to Kaplansky, McGovern, Roitman, Shchedryk, Wiegand, and Zabavsky--Bilavska and obtain new criteria for a Hermite ring to be an \textsl{EDR}. We mention three criteria: (1) a Hermite ring $R$ is an \textsl{EDR} iff for all pairs $(a,c)\in R^2$, the product homomorphism $U(R/Rac)\times U\bigl(R/Rc(1-a)\bigr)\to U(R/Rc)$ between groups of units is surjective; (2) a reduced Hermite ring is an \textsl{EDR} iff it is a pre-Schreier ring and for each $a\in R$, every zero determinant unimodular $2\times 2$ matrix with entries in $R/Ra$ lifts to a zero determinant matrix with entries in $R$; (3) a B\'{e}zout domain $R$ is an \textsl{EDD} iff for all triples $(a,b,c)\in R^3$ there exists a unimodular pair $(e,f)\in R^2$ such that $(a,e)$ and $(be+af,1-a-bc)$ are unimodular pairs. We use these criteria to show that each B\'{e}zout ring $R$ that is an $(SU)_2$ ring (as introduced by Lorenzini) such that for each nonzero $a\in R$ there exists no nontrivial self-dual projective $R/Ra$-module of rank $1$ generated by $2$ elements (e.g., all its elements are squares), is an \textsl{EDR}., Comment: 19 pages. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:2303.08413

In this paper we adapt the notion of the nucleus defined by Benson, Carlson, and Robinson to compact Lie groups in non-modular characteristic. We show that it describes the singularities of the projective scheme of the cohomology of its classifying space. A notion of support for singularity categories of ring spectra (in the sense of Greenlees and Stevenson) is established, and is shown to be precisely the nucleus in this case, consistent with a conjecture of Benson and Greenlees for finite groups., Comment: 15 Pages

In this paper, we explore a class of numerical semigroups initiated by Kunz and Waldi containing two coprime numbers $p < q$, which we call KW semigroups. We characterize KW numerical semigroups by their principal matrices. We present a necessary and sufficient criterion for a matrix to be the principal matrix of a KW semigroup. An explicit description of the minimal resolutions of numerical semigroups in the same class with small embedding dimensions 3 and 4 is given. We give a generalization of this notion to three dimensions using lattice paths under a plane and present some preliminary results and questions., Comment: 19 pages, 6 figures

Our purpose in this work is multifold. First, we provide general criteria for the finiteness of the projective and injective dimensions of a finite module $M$ over a (commutative) Noetherian ring $R$. Second, in the other direction, we investigate the impact of the finiteness of certain homological dimensions of $M$ if $R$ is local, mainly when $R$ is Cohen-Macaulay and with a partial focus on duals. Along the way, we produce various freeness criteria for modules. Finally, we give applications, including characterizations of when $R$ is Gorenstein (and other ring-theoretic properties as well, sometimes in the prime characteristic setting), particularly by means of its anticanonical module, and in addition we address special cases of some long-standing conjectures; for instance, we confirm the 1985 conjecture of Vasconcelos on normal modules in case the module of differentials is almost Cohen-Macaulay., Comment: Comments are welcome!

Let A be a commutative noetherian local DG-ring with bounded cohomology. The Intersection Theorem for DG-modules is examined and some of its applications are provided. The first is to prove the DG-setting of the amplitude inequality, New Intersection Theorem and Krull's principle ideal theorem. The second is to solve completely the Minamoto's conjecture in [Israel J. Math. 242 (2021) 1-36]. It was recently conjectured that every component of a discrete rational dynamical system is a solution to an algebraic difference equation that is linear in its highest-shift term (a quasi-linear equation). Holonomic sequences are trivially seen as solutions to such dynamical systems. We prove that the conjecture holds for holonomic sequences and propose two algorithms for converting holonomic recurrence equations into such quasi-linear equations. In this article we study nonzero modules of finite length and finite projective dimension over a local ring. We show the Loewy length of such a module is larger than the regularity of the ring whenever the ring is strict Cohen-Macaulay, extending work of Avramov-Buchweitz-Iyengar-Miller beyond the Gorenstein setting. Applications include establishing a conjecture of Corso-Huneke-Polini-Ulrich and verifying a Lech-like conjecture, comparing generalized Loewy length along flat local extensions, for strict Cohen-Macaulay rings. We also give significant improvements on known lower bounds for Loewy lengths of modules of finite projective dimension without any assumption on the associated graded ring. It is well-known that within Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory (ZF), the Axiom of Choice (AC) implies the Maximal Ideal Theorem (MIT), namely that every commutative ring has a maximal ideal. The converse implication MIT $\Rightarrow$ AC was first proved by Hodges, with subsequent proofs given by Banaschewski and Ern\'e. Here we give another derivation of MIT $\Rightarrow$ AC, aiming to make the exposition self-contained and accessible to non-experts with only introductory familiarity with commutative ring theory and naive set theory.

We show that ind-smoothness of flat ring maps can be tested on constructible stratifications, even for maps of non-Noetherian rings. We prove this by generalizing ind-smoothness and ind-lci to a sequence of conditions on animated ring maps called ind-$d$-smoothness, and showing all at once that they can be tested on constructible stratifications., Comment: 20 pages

Let $\Omega$ be the {\em superspace ring} of polynomial-valued differential forms on affine $n$-space. The natural action of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ on $n$-space induces an action of $\mathfrak{S}_n$ on $\Omega$. The {\em superspace coinvariant ring} is the quotient $SR$ of $\Omega$ by the ideal generated by $\mathfrak{S}_n$-invariants with vanishing constant term. We give the first explicit basis of $SR$, proving a conjecture of Sagan and Swanson. Our techniques use the theory of hyperplane arrangements. We relate $SR$ to instances of the Solomon-Terao algebras of Abe-Maeno-Murai-Numata and use exact sequences relating the derivation modules of certain `southwest closed' arrangements to obtain the desired basis of $SR$., Comment: 26 pages

The total Betti numbers of the toric ideal of a simple graph are, in general, highly sensitive to any small change of the graph. In this paper we look at some combinatorial operations that cause total Betti numbers to change in predictable ways. In particular, we focus on a procedure that preserves these invariants.

We show the asymptotic relationship between the limit of the normalized length function of a multi-$p-$family of ideals and that of its shifted family under linear growth conditions in a local domain of characteristic $p$. Examples of multi-$p-$families of ideals including products of Frobenius powers of different ideals. We apply our results to obtain a generalized version of a formula due to Wantanabe-Yoshida for certain $p-$families using results from Verma, and to provide an instance of the existence of a mixed multiplicity version of multi-$p$-families of ideals., Comment: 22 pages

A unimodular $2\times 2$ matrix $A$ with entries in a commutative ring $R$ is called weakly determinant liftable if there exists a matrix $B$ congruent to $A$ modulo $R\det(A)$ and $\det(B)=0$; if we can choose $B$ to be unimodular, then $A$ is called determinant liftable. If $A$ is extendable to an invertible $3\times 3$ matrix $A^+$, then $A$ is weakly determinant liftable. If $A$ is simple extendable (i.e., we can choose $A^+$ such that its $(3,3)$ entry is $0$), then $A$ is determinant liftable. We present necessary and/or sufficient criteria for $A$ to be (weakly) determinant liftable and we use them to show that if $R$ is a $\Pi_2$ ring in the sense of Part I (resp.\ is a pre-Schreier domain), then $A$ is simply extendable (resp.\ extendable) iff it is determinant liftable (resp.\ weakly determinant liftable). Let $G$ be an additive abelian group. A sequence $S = g_1 \cdot \ldots \cdot g_{\ell}$ of terms from $G$ is a plus-minus weighted zero-sum sequence if there are $\varepsilon_1, \ldots, \varepsilon_{\ell} \in \{-1, 1\}$ such that $\varepsilon_1 g_1 + \ldots + \varepsilon_{\ell} g_{\ell}=0$. We study sets of lengths in the monoid $\mathcal B_{\pm} (G)$ of plus-minus weighted zero-sum sequences over $G$. If $G$ is finite, then sets of lengths are highly structured. If $G$ is infinite, then every finite, nonempty subset of $\mathbb N_{\ge 2}$ is the set of lengths of some sequence $S \in \mathcal B_{\pm} (G)$.

We study degree bounds on rational but not necessarily polynomial generators for the field $\mathbf{k}(V)^G$ of rational invariants of a linear action of a finite abelian group. We show that lattice-theoretic methods used recently by the author and collaborators to study polynomial generators for the same field largely carry over, after minor modifications to the arguments. We introduce and study a notion of dimly liftable modules; these are modules that are liftable to the right dimension to a regular local ring. We establish special new cases of Serre's positivity conjecture over ramified regular local rings by proving it for dimly liftable modules. Furthermore, we show that the length of a nonzero finite length dimly liftable module is bounded below by the Hilbert-Samuel multiplicity of the local ring. This establishes special cases of the Length Conjecture of Iyengar-Ma-Walker.

We prove that in any fixed dimension, K-semistable log Fano cone singularities whose volumes are bounded from below by a fixed positive number form a bounded set. We introduce a detection algorithm for SAGBI basis in polynomial rings, analogous to a Gr\"obner basis detection algorithm previously proposed by Gritzmann and Sturmfels. We also present two accompanying software packages named SagbiGbDetection for Macaulay2 and Julia. Both packages allow the user to find one or more term orders for which a set of input polynomials form either Gr\"obner basis for the ideal they generate or a SAGBI basis for the subalgebra. Additionally, we investigate the computational complexity of homogeneous SAGBI detection and apply our implementation to several novel examples.

Matlis duality for modules over commutative rings gives rise to the notion of Matlis reflexivity. It is shown that Matlis reflexive modules form a Krull-Schmidt category. For noetherian rings the absence of infinite direct sums is a characteristic feature of Matlis reflexivity. This leads to a discussion of objects that are extensions of artinian by noetherian objects. Classifications of Matlis reflexive modules are provided for some small examples., Comment: 12 pages. We show that the maximal shifts in the minimal free resolution of the quotients of a polynomial ring by a monomial ideal are subadditive as a function of the homological degree. This answers a question that has received some attention in recent years. To do so, we define and study a new model for the homology of posets, given by the so called synor complex. We also introduce an Eilenberg-Zilber type shuffle product on the simplicial chain complex of lattices. Combining these concepts we prove that the existence of a non-zero homology class for a lattice forces certain non-zero homology classes in lower intervals. This result then translates into properties of the minimal free resolution. In particular, it implies a generalization of the original question.

A graded Artinian algebra $A$ has the Weak Lefschetz Property if there exists a linear form $\ell$ such that the multiplication map by $\ell:[A]_i\to [A]_{i+1}$ has maximum rank in every degree. The linear forms satisfying this property form a Zariski-open set; its complement is called the non-Lefschetz locus of $A$. In this paper, we investigate analogous questions for degree-two forms rather than lines. We prove that any complete intersection $A=k[x_1,x_2,x_3]/(f_1,f_2,f_3)$, with $\text{char } k=0$, has the Strong Lefschetz Property at range $2$, i.e. there exists a linear form $\ell\in [R]_1$, such that the multiplication map $\times \ell^2: [M]_i\to [M]_{i+2}$ has maximum rank in each degree. Then we focus on the forms of degree 2 such that $ \times C: [A]_i\to [A]_{i+2}$ fails to have maximum rank in some degree $i$. The main result shows that the non-Lefschetz locus of conics for a general complete intersection $A=k[x_1,x_2,x_3]/(f_1,f_2,f_3)$ has the expected codimension as a subscheme of $\mathbb{P}^5$. The hypothesis of generality is necessary. We include examples of monomial complete intersections in which the non-Lefschetz locus of conics has different codimension. To extend a similar result to the first cohomology modules of rank $2$ vector bundles over $\mathbb{P}^2$, we explore the connection between non-Lefschetz conics and jumping conics. The non-Lefschetz locus of conics is a subset of the jumping conics. Unlike the case of the lines, this can be proper when $\mathcal{E}$ is semistable with first Chern class even., Comment: 32 pages

We continue a program of investigating the parity of the coefficients of eta-quotients, with the goal of elucidating the parity of the partition function. In this paper, we consider positive integer powers $t$ of the Dedekind eta-function. Previous work and conjectures suggest that arithmetic progressions in which the Fourier coefficients of these functions are even should be numerous. We explicitly identify infinite classes of such progressions modulo prime squares for several values of $t$, and we offer two broad conjectures concerning their existence in general., Comment: 11 pages

A symmetric ideal is an ideal in a polynomial ring which is stable under all permutations of the variables. In this paper we initiate a global study of zero-dimensional symmetric ideals. By this we mean a geometric study of the invariant Hilbert schemes $\mathrm{Hilb}_{\rho}^{S_n}(\mathbb{C}^n)$ parametrizing symmetric subschemes of $\mathbb{C}^n$ whose coordinate rings, as $S_n$-modules, are isomorphic to a given representation $\rho$. In the case that $\rho = M^\lambda$ is a permutation module corresponding to certain special types of partitions $\lambda$ of $n$, we prove that $\mathrm{Hilb}_{\rho}^{S_n}(\mathbb{C}^n)$ is irreducible or even smooth. We also prove irreducibility whenever $\dim \rho \leq 2n$ and the invariant Hilbert scheme is non-empty. In this same range, we classify all homogeneous symmetric ideals and decide which of these define singular points of $\mathrm{Hilb}_{\rho}^{S_n}(\mathbb{C}^n)$. Let $(A,\mathfrak{m})$ be a hypersurface local ring of dimension $d \geq 1$ and let $I$ be an $\mathfrak{m}$-primary ideal. We show that there is a non-negative integer $r_I$ (depending only on $I$) such that if $M$ is any non-free maximal Cohen-Macaulay $A$-module the function $n \rightarrow \ell(Tor^A_1(M, A/I^{n+1}))$ (which is of polynomial type) has degree $r_I$. Analogous results hold for Hilbert polynomials associated to Ext-functors. Surprisingly a key ingredient is the classification of thick subcategories of the stable category of MCM $A$-modules (obtained by Takahashi).

Let $(A, \mathfrak{m})$ be a Gorenstein local ring, and $\mathcal{F} =\{F_n \}_{n\in \mathbb{Z}}$ a Hilbert filtration. In this paper, we give a criterion for Gorensteinness of the associated graded ring of $\mathcal{F}$ in terms of the Hilbert coefficients of $\mathcal{F}$ in some cases. As a consequence we recover and extend a result proved by Okuma, Watanabe and Yoshida. Further, we present ring-theoretic properties of the normal tangent cone of the maximal ideal of $A=S/(f)$ where $S=K[\![x_0,x_1,\ldots, x_m]\!]$ is a formal power series ring over an algebraically closed field $K$, and $f=x_0^a-g(x_1,\ldots,x_m)$, where $g$ is a polynomial with $g \in (x_1,\ldots,x_m)^b \setminus (x_1,\ldots,x_m)^{b+1}$, and $a, \, b, \, m$ are integers. We show that the normal tangent cone $\overline{G}(\mathfrak{m})$ is Cohen-Macaulay if $A$ is normal and $a \le b$. Let $\xx= x_1,\ldots,x_r$ denote a system of elements of a commutative ring $R$. For an $R$-module $M$ we investigate when $\xx$ is $M$-pro-regular resp. $M$-weakly pro-regular as generalizations of $M$-regular sequences. This is done in terms of \v{C}ech co-homology resp. homology, defined by $H^i(\check{C}_{\xx} \otimes_R \cdot)$ resp. by $H_i({\textrm{R}} \Hom_R(\check{C}_{\xx},\cdot)) \cong H_i(\Hom_R(\mathcal{L}_{\xx},\cdot))$, where $\check{C}_{\xx}$ denotes the \v{C}ech complex and $\mathcal{L}_{\xx}$ is a bounded free resolution of it as constructed in [17] resp. [16]. The property of $\xx$ being $M$-pro-regular resp. $M$-weakly pro-regular follows by the vanishing of certain \v{C}ech co-homology resp. homology modules, which is related to completions. This extends previously work by Greenlees and May (see) [5] and Lipman et al. (see [1]}). This contributes to a further understanding of \v{C}ech (co-)homology in the non-Noetherian case. As a technical tool we use one of Emmanouil's results (see [4]) about the inverse limits and its derived functor. This work concerns the stable module category of a finite group over a field of characteristic dividing the group order. The minimal localising tensor ideals correspond to the non-maximal homogeneous prime ideals in the cohomology ring of the group. Given such a prime ideal, a number of characterisations of the dualisable objects in the corresponding tensor ideal are given. One characterisation of interest is that they are exactly the modules whose restriction along a corresponding $\pi$-point are finite dimensional plus projective. A key insight is the identification of a special property of the stable module category that controls the cohomological behaviour of local dualisable objects. This property, introduced in this work for general triangulated categories and called local regularity, is related to strong generation. In this paper, over a field of positive characteristic we exhibit an infinite family of counter examples to the Zariski Cancellation Problem in higher dimensions ($\geqslant 3$) which are pairwise non-isomorphic and also non-isomorphic to the existing family of counter examples, demonstrated by Gupta in \cite{adv}.

A Comprehensive Grobner system for a parametric ideal I in K(A)[X] represents the collection of all Grobner bases of the ideals I' in K[X] obtained as the values of the parameters A vary in K. The recent algorithms for computing them comprehensive Grobner systems consider the corresponding ideal J in K[A,X], and are based on stability of Grobner bases of ideals under specializations of the parameters. Starting from a Grobner basis of J, the computation splits recursively depending on the vanishing of the evaluation of some ``coefficients'' in K[A]. In this paper, taking inspiration from the algorithm described by Nabeshima, we create a new iterative algorithm to compute comprehensive Grobner systems. We show how we keep track of the sub-cases to be considered, and how we avoid some redundant computation branches using ``comparatively-cheap'' ideal-membership tests, instead of radical-membership tests.

The small finitistic dimension $\fPD(R)$ of a ring $R$ is defined to be the supremum of projective dimensions of $R$-modules with finite projective resolutions. In this paper, we investigate the small finitistic dimensions of four types of ring constructions: polynomial rings, formal power series rings, trivial extensions and amalgamations. Besides, we show the small finitistic dimensions of a ring is less than or equal to its Krull dimension. We also give a total ring of quotients with infinite small finitistic dimension.

The Huneke-Wiegand conjecture is a decades-long open question in commutative algebra. Garc\'ia-S\'anchez and Leamer showed that a special case of this conjecture concerning numerical semigroup rings $\Bbbk[\Gamma]$ can be answered in the affirmative by locating certain arithmetic sequences within the numerical semigroup $\Gamma$. In this paper, we use their approach to prove the Huneke-Wiegand conjecture in the case where $\Gamma$ is generated by a generalized arithmetic sequence and showcase how visualizations can be leveraged to find the requisite arithmetic sequences.

The theory of Rees algebras of monomial ideals has been extensively studied, and as a consequence, many (sometimes partial) equivalences between algebraic properties of monomial ideals, and combinatorial properties of simplicial complexes and hypergraphs are known. In this paper we show how this theory can be used to find interesting examples in the theory of Lefschetz properties. We explore the consequences of known results from Lefschetz properties to the Rees algebras of squarefree monomial ideals, for example in the calculation of analytic spread. In particular, we show a connection between symbolic powers and $f$-vectors of simplicial complexes. This perspective leads us to a generalization of Postnikov's "mixed Eulerian numbers". We investigate a geometric criterion for a smooth curve $C$ of genus $14$ and degree $18$ to be described as the zero locus of a section in an Ulrich bundle of rank $3$ on a del Pezzo threefold $V_5 \subset \mathbb{P}^6$. The main challenge is to read off the Pfaffian quadrics defining $V_5$ from geometric structures of $C$. We find that this problem is related to the existence of a special rank-two vector bundle on $C$ with trivial resonance. This answers a question posed by Ciliberto-Flamini-Knutsen, in the case of degree $5$ del Pezzo threefolds. Supersolvable hyperplane arrangements and matroids are known to give rise to certain Koszul algebras, namely their Orlik-Solomon algebras and graded Varchenko-Gel'fand algebras. We explore how this interacts with group actions, particularly for the braid arrangement and the action of the symmetric group, where the Hilbert functions of the algebras and their Koszul duals are given by Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds, respectively. The corresponding symmetric group representations exhibit branching rules that interpret Stirling number recurrences, which are shown to apply to all supersolvable arrangements.
